In the quiet hallways of schools, a silent cycle often takes hold: a child may experience common mental health or health symptoms that go undetected. For many students, specialized care is often a world away, leaving them at risk for adverse outcomes like absenteeism and mounting distress.
The PURSUIT project aims to rewrite this story by getting kids access to effective care sooner by leveraging the resources available to them. Through this project, supported by a grant from the Michigan Health Endowment Fund, training will be offered to Michigan school providers, such as school nurses and school social workers, to spot child’s physical and mental health symptoms and use evidence-based strategies to address it.
This program will also provide a digital self-support tool to children to address common symptoms they may experience in the comfort of their own home. Such a program aims to increase access to care by leveraging and augmenting the supports available to them so they can focus on what matters most: simply being a student.
